Braun Oral-B Plak Control Ultra
Bought my first Braun Oral-B Plak Control Ultra toothbrush about five years ago at the advice of my dentist, as he said the oscillating action was good to not only brush the teeth, but that it would scrub away plaque from between teeth and along gum lines better than my old 'up-and-down' electric or regular toothbrushes.
It lasted about a month before it wouldn't take a charge, so I contacted Braun and they immediately sent out a replacement Braun 7040-076 Oral B Toothbrush Ultra Power Handle w/Timer... and this one is still working quite well to this day, and is in daily use by both my son and me. When you're using it, a pulsing signal after two minutes will indicate that you've reached the recommended brushing time, which is good for both children and sleepy adults first thing in the morning.
As with regular toothbrushes, most dentist say to replace the heads about every three months, and the blue indicators on the brushes will fade to let you know that it's getting close to time. The only problem with these is finding the correct replacement heads in local drug and grocery stores, and their high prices may surprise you. They're called 'Precision Clean' (the new name for 'Flexisoft') and should be marked 'EB17'. You can get them here as well:
¤ Oral-B Precision Clean 3-pack brush head refill
¤ Oral-B EB17-3 Power Toothbrush Replacement Brush Heads
¤ Oral-B Precision Clean - 4 Replacement Brush Heads
¤ 9 (3X3) Oral-B Replacement Fexisoft Brushheads EB-17
¤ Oral-B 3 Precision Clean + 1 Interspace Refills
¤ Oral-B Precision Clean Replacement Brush Head Refill
Keep your eye open on the prices, as they do seem to vary quite a bit. Some are sold by vendors, but shipping may be free and marked 'Fulfilled by Amazon'. You can also search here for 'eb17', 'precision clean', or 'flexisoft' and you should be able to find them.
ALERT: It should be noted that (along with other brands of electric toothbrush heads) there are counterfeit Oral-B heads on the market, and they may be hard to spot, though the Oral-B logo seems to wipe off on some of them. They're usually marked "Flexisoft" and have German and/or Chinese writing on them, and can break in two days to two weeks. This does not apply to the 'tingletip' which is a separate item altogether, and not used as a toothbrush.
Speaking of brush heads, when you replace your Oral-B brush, don't just throw it out. Keep it and use it for effortlessly cleaning or polishing small items such as jewelry.

Braun Oral B Toothbrush
My electric toothbrush ceased to operate so thus began the quest for a new one. I was very excited to see that I only needed to replace the toothbrush and not the whole unit (charger). The whole process was simple and quick. My toothbrush arrived when expected. Great experience.

Better than the original
Replacement handle is more powerful than the original. The timer feature is nice also, but it's at the expense of not having a power indicator light any longer.

Rreplacement handle works great
I bought this as a replacement for my original power handle toothbrush. I'm very happy with it, since it works fine with original charger. The only con, and it's a minor one, is that it doesn't have the charge indicator light of the original handle. Price beats replacing the charger too!

Glad to get a replacement!
When my old toothbrush died suddenly, I thought I'd have to replace the entire system. Much to my surprise, I found that I could purchase just the power handle. The product shipped fast and works great.

Customer Review :
Product is great, Amazon description is not
These are the standard brushes, so if you like the way the original one that came with the unit works, you'll like these. The product description by Amazon was wrong. Originally, it stated I would receive 3 brushes per pack; 1 standard, 1 small head and 1 interdental brush. I received 2 standard brushs per pack not the 3 mixed pack. I called Amazon twice on it and now the product description has been changed but it is still wrong. It now states 2 brushes per pack; 1 standard and 1 small. That is incorrect. There are 2 standard brushes per pack. So Amazon sort of listened and sort of corrected it. In either case, 2 brushes for less than $11 is still a bargin. I would purchase these again. Waterpik makes a great product even though Oral B and Sonicare get all the publicity.

Wonderful for Wisdom Teeth
I have all of my wisdom teeth. I have always had trouble cleaning them properly with regular toothbrushes. As a result I tend to have greater plaque build up and my gums are more sensitive. This little brush helps me reach them easily and my dentist notices the difference. They aren't sold many places, but I'll willing to traverse the city looking for them.

Question : ?Dental Hygiene?
My fiance is a dental hygienist. I have been told that you can't open a dental hygiene clinic in Texas. We wanted to open a office that did cleanings only, without a dentist. Can anyone confirm or deny the laws surronding an office of this nature in Texas?
Answer:
Hi, I'm a dentist.
A dental hygienist must practice under a dentist's license in almost every state in the union. I believe the exception is rural parts of one of the Dakotas and possibly Alaska as well for the Inuit population, as there are very few dentists in that area. Don't count on your fiance ever being able to do this. The American Dental Association spends a lot of money and time lobbying against independent hygiene clinics, and for good reason.
Not what you wanted to hear, no doubt, but it's the truth.

Question : Can you only get a degree in dental hygiene if?
My friend wants to get an associates degree in dental hygiene because she wants to be a dental hygienist. We looked but we only found bachelor degree programs for dental hygiene.
She already has a degree in dental assisting and has a job doing so for like a year now actually...
Is there no associates degree programs for dental hygiene or are there only bachelor degree programs?
Answer:
Most community colleges offer associates degrees, which is what your friend is looking for.

Question : Which is a better field to get into respiratory therapy or dental hygiene?
I am thinking about entering the medical field, but i only want to do 2 yrs. i was thinking about dental hygiene and respiratory therapy. Which one is better? and what are the advantages and disadvantages?
Answer:
Hi Ceci - you can get into dental hygiene faster than you can get into respiratory therapy (6-8 mos.), but you can make more as as a respiratory therapist AND literally help improve someone's quality of life. Dental hygienists are very necessary, and thank God we have them; I just hear people grunting and moaning any time I'm in the dental office. Respiratory therapists are helping people help themselves and get back on the road to recovery. (it takes about 2 years for a RT, unless you take an accelerated course. Here are a couple of links that can help you get an idea of what you would be headed into:

Best of luck, Ceci!

Question : Is it difficult to be accepted into a dental hygiene program at a community college?
I am planning to enroll in a dental assisting program in January. It is a 15 week program after which i will become certified. After i am certified and working as a dental assistant, how difficult is is to get accepted to a dental hygienist program at a community college? Any info you can give me about this field would be very helpful! Thank you so much.
Answer:
Dental hygiene programs are very selective in their admissions. You will need to have excellent grades in your college courses. Don't despair. I've had two da's go on to hygiene school. They took college courses at night at the local community college. Good luck in your career!

Question : I am currently in the dental hygiene program, and have to have 65 patients. How can I find patients?
I am currently in the dental hygiene program, and have to have 65 before graduation. We have to find our own patients. The clinic offers a 50% discount to all college students as well as takes just about any insurance plan. However, I am new to the area and do not know very many people. How can I find patients?
Answer:
Advertise. Place an ad in the newspaper. That's what my classmates and I did. At least we had a receptionist in the college who took messages for us. We also had access to voicemail.
Approach strangers in the college and ask them. I found it was a very effective way to find patients.
When I was in school, I had to pass a provincial practical exam in order to obtain my license. I paid both of my patients (the selected patient and my back-up) $75 to show up for that appointment. I didn't need to use my back-up patient because my first patient showed up, but someone else used my back-up because her patient was a no-show. If your patient doesn't show up you don't get your money back for the exam fee. Then you have to make a second attempt a couple of months later and pay the fee again. It was worth it to pay patients who were willing to be my exam candidates.
I also did something sneaky and I don't regret it. The college just started charging patients for a cleaning and the system was unorganized. I used that to my advantage. They never checked up on who paid the fee and who didn't. All you had to do was sign their chart claiming they paid. I signed all of my patients charts even though none of them paid and I was never caught.
It's easier to find patients when they get a free service.

Question : Is Dental Assistaning a more popular career than Dental Hygiene?
Because...I see commercials about becoming dental assistants all day, everyday but i don't ever see any about dental hygienist.I also can't find any 2 yr or community colleges that offer dental hygiene in TN.How can it be a growing career if its so hard to find a school to go to for it?
I'd really hope to be a dental hygienist, but I just don't know about it anymore. It seems too difficult to get into.
Answer:
Dental assisting is a great career field and it is certainly growing. An entry level dental assistant can make around $10-$15 per hour without experience and has the potential to earn $30-$35 per hour with several years of experience and additional certifications (radiology, coronal polishing, pit and fissure sealants, etc.) You probably don't see a lot of commercials for dental hygeine because most programs are competitive and so they don't necessarily need to advertise to attract students, they already have more apply than they have space for. Dental hygeine has also become a field that is in demand most start of making around $45,000 - $50,000 per year and will make $65,000 after a few years of experience. Dental hygeine requires at least a 2 year associates degree and several licensure exams to practice in a particular state.

Question : Is it better to do a year in dental assistant class then go in to dental hygiene?
This year I will be appling for the dental assistant course at durham college. I don't want to become the assistant I'm hoping to do a year of this course so I have a better chance to get in to the hygiene program. Do you think this will help my chance to get in, instead of starting in to the hygiene program right out of high school.
Answer:
Apply for both if you can get directly into the dental hygienist program.
If you don't get in, then go ahead and do the dental assistant class.
What is most important is that you have your pre-req's and good grades...if your dental hygiene program is not lottery based like the nursing programs are, then you'll benifit from a preceptership or internship at a local dentist. Also any extra classes you can apply to it, such as medical terminology or whatever.
But yeah if you are eligible now and have all your pre-reqs...it certainly wouldn't hurt to try.

Question : Be a dental assistant then work on dental hygiene?
I want to spend a year taking my general ed credits then the next year take the one year dental-assisting program. After I finish, i want to work as a dental assistant while i finish my general ed to transfer and study dental hygiene to be a dentist. Is this a reasonable plan or are there any better ideas?
Answer:
That's a great idea! You will gain lots of experience working at a dental office by the time you finish school and become a dentist. You won't have any problems finding a job after graduation. GOOD LUCK!
