Pleasantly Strong

I just purchased my Interplak about one month ago. At the first use, I wondered why I always have to be the sucker. Is it written in my DNA code? Is it some mental defect? I decided that I might do some research just as soon as I cleaned the water from all over the bathroom sink. It sprayed water all over the place (even wet up my toilet paper), and the spray felt far too weak to be of any benefit. As I boxed up the unit to return, I wondered about the other tips and whether or not turning up the pressure would do any good. So, I unboxed that rascal, filled it up, changed to the sub-gingival tip, and let 'er rip. Whoa! What a change! That tip on the highest setting really does the trick. It even blasted away that wicked popcorn husk that had settled under my gum line and had been vexing me since dinner. I have since decided that using the subgingival tip on the highest setting is overkill. The pressure is strong enough to leave my gums too sensitive, so I have turned it down a couple of notches. That tip works so well that I no longer bother with the other tips that were included. And it is just as well too, since the tongue cleaner tool is likely a hospital visit just waiting to happen. I almost drowned in front of the mirror when I tried it. There is no good way to holler for help with a pint of water down your throat. I caution strongly against that.

Overall, the unit is a great machine at a great price. I agree with one of the reviewers about storing the other attachments on the machine. The least little bump or jarring sends them all over the floor or sink top. I keep mine stored in a baggie for the day when I develop amnesia and forget why I never use them. Also, I have to use my Interplak without that water stopper in the resevoir now, or it won't work. I just fill it with a dixie cup or something, and I am off to the races. I do wish that the resevoir held more water at times. It has to be refilled at least once to finish the job, but I shouldn't complain. I bought it because I didn't want a big butt-ugly tank littering the bathroom. Next time (when this Interplak breaks totally), I'll get the Quickpik to attach to the faucet.

Extremely poor quality/no customer service

Purchased on 1-2-08 and used each day one time and on 1-9-08 sub-gingival tip failed. Rubber tip split in two while using. Phoned conair/interplak and got eternal hold. After I finally got through they expected me to return the entire unit for replacement of the little attachment tip. Not realistic. I will return to Walmart for a full refund and look for another brand. DO NOT BUY INTERPLAK BRAND!!! When you have a problem (and you will because of poor quality) you will find no customer support that is reasonable. They are rude and don't want you to return the unit and make doing so prohibitive in terms of the delay getting through and the cost of shipping back to them, the entire product no matter what goes wrong. I've seen some poorly operated business' lately but this outfit takes the grand prize. I would have given them no stars if it were possible. The unit itself is very noisy, crude controls compared to other brands I've owned and has a very small reservoir. The cord tangled so bad that it would surely have failed in short order if the tip hadn't done so first. I would recommend you spend the extra money on one of the better quality units out there rather than waste your money and time with this one (unless you are looking for a cheap gift and don't care how it works).

Great little water pic

I got this for my son who just got his braces. After reading reviews I had mixed feelings about getting it. I'm glad I trusted my instincts and did. This is GREAT. Perfect size to keep on sink or even pack in overnight bag. Water is just perfect amount for 1 cleaning and honestly who would want to leave water standing in it and use stale water anyways? The spray goes from light to could take your skin off, LOL, so I would NOT suggest you use it on high unless you really need to get some major build-up off. Defiantly way easier than flossing and gives a fresh from the dentist clean feeling. The only flaw I could find was that you have to hold the button in to get the water to stop, but after thinking about it that is really not a flaw. It keeps you hands from getting tired or perfect for someone with arthritis. If you want it to stop spaying just simply turn off at machine, or if want to stop for just a few seconds push the button on the handle. Also doesn't say it but comes with LOTS of different heads/tips. Again, PERFECT!

Seems a good value, but time will tell

At the ripe old age of 54, I have braces. The Orthodontist recommended oral irrigation as superior to laborious flossing around the braces.

Being a guy prone to do a lot of research prior to purchasing anything, I did the whole research thing and found that all oral irrigation machines, no matter from what company (WaterPik, ViaJet, Interplak, whomever) all have lots of negative reviews. It seems they are all prone to leaking, breaking, tipping over and a host of other issues.

That being the case, I decided to start at the low end of the pricing scale and see if the cheaper machine with pretty good ratings would work for me. So I bought the Conair Interplak WJ64.

Yes it is cheesy feeling...very cheap in its construction. It is also very light weigh particularly the base. When attempting to remove the reservoir the base usually comes up off the counter right along with the reservoir, so it takes two hands to remove it...one hand holding the base, the other grabbing and lifting the reservoir. This is not that big of a deal, but it is indicative of the lightness of the unit.

The reservoir is just the right size for a single rinsing of the mouth but the small size does make the overall "footprint" of the unit small too so that is a good thing as it does not take up a lot of space on the bathroom counter.

As for the tip holders on the unit...forget it. The tips easily fall out ending up on the counter/floor. Stash the un-used tips in a drawer and save yourself the daily frustration. I only use the standard tip and suspect most people would do the same. For my usage, the other tips don't serve much purpose as I also use an electric toothbrush and don't need to use the other tips.

The pressure from this machine is totally sufficient. I have settled on a pressure setting in the mid-range of the possible settings and at that setting the stream is quite strong. No issues with pressure (or lack of) for me.

I do not like the "on/off" button on the handle... it is really cheeesy feeling and I'm just waiting for it to break. It hasn't yet, but then again, I've only been using the machine for two weeks.

For the price I paid, nearly half the cost of other oral irrigation machines, I'm quite happy so far. It does have a 2 year warranty which I consider generous. So if it breaks, the warranty should cover it. If it doesn't break in two years then it'll be one heck of a value because I like its performance in spite of the limitations I've already mentioned.

I was going to by a Waterpik initially, but after reading so many complaints about how the quality of them has gone downhill, I decided to try this one first. I'm happy with my decision. I will update my review if anything changes my opinion such as breakage or leaking.

I was tempted to give only 3 stars because of the "cheesy" factor, but am going out on a limb and awarding 4 stars since the performance of the machine has been more than adequate so far and the price is excellent.

Great little gadget

I've had my WP-60W for almost two years, ever since I started getting sore gums periodically, but rarely used it regularly. I have almost no counter space by the sink, so I kept putting it in the closet, where it would be forgotten until I started hurting again.

I finally gave in and now keep it perched on the edge of the sink. I had some bleeding the first couple times I used it, but now that's stopped and I even think the most troublesome pocket may be holding less debris. When I'm in a hurry I just irrigate the problem areas, but at night I give myself a thorough session with it. At this point, if I floss after I use the Waterpik, I get hardly anything off of my teeth!

The little monster is loud, but hey, it has to create a lot of pressure from a teeny tiny motor, and I'm sure the short lifespan of 2-4 years is what keeps the price so low. With twice-daily use I don't expect it live more than a couple more years, which frankly is a great bargain if I can avoid an oral surgeon or more fillings due to receding gums.

Last week I decided to splurge on a Waterpik Ultra Cordless Dental Water Jet, which was awful compared with the 60W--tiny reservoir, extremely awkward to handle, impossible to clean thoroughly--and is going right back to the store. Even with its noise and size, the 60W is far easier to use. I did consider the QuickBreeze - Dental Oral Irrigator w/ 36" hose, but it doesn't allow you to use mouthwash, which is important if you've got serious gum problems.

Here are some tips for the WP-60W:

* Press the reservoir down firmly over the gasket. When the water level is low it's likely to lose its connection; either press the reservoir down again or add water.

* When you get started, set the pressure to the lowest level and hold the pik pointing into the sink until the water starts; then you can get it into your mouth with no spray and carefully turn up the pressure.

* I never leave water in the reservoir; if you do, you're just asking for contamination or bacteria. That's why I decided not to buy the one with the covered reservoir.

* To keep things as sanitary as possible, rinse the reservoir and run clear water through the machine if you've used mouthwash. Remove the 'pik' and rinse it out under the faucet. Then hold the handle in the sink below the level of the reservoir to allow water to drain out of the cord and shake it into the sink a few times to remove any remaining water in the handle. I then turn the reservoir over and prop it up on the unit until it dries out, since I'm concerned with bacterial or algae buildup.

All in all, this is a great machine. It sounds like Waterpik is great about replacing bad units within a year (without a receipt!!). Nothing is made the way it used to be, but given the low price I'm not too concerned.

Great for Everyday Home Use!

I got this for Christmas and Love it!!! It makes my whole mouth feel super clean. I can see how it wouldn't be practical for taking it on trips...which is understandable (and that's why they make small hand held ones). I have super sensitive gums and often times when I floss or brush my gums bleed. I feel like this product gets the job done with out all the mess. It's a little hard to get used to at first ( I squirted myself in the face a couple of times) but is worth the hassle.

7+ Years, still going strong

I've had this model for over 7 years and noticed the poor reviews so here's my quickie - still runs strong, doesn't leak, but I'm upgrading to the Ultra.

If you're in the market for a WP you might as well go with that since the price is so close. I lost my extra tips years ago & the storage inside the lid on the ultra seems like it'll be a nice feature.

The only cons IMO are the lack of a lid over the reservoir which needs periodic cleaning. The 32 oz+ capacity will likely be missed, but I usually only fill this model halfway anyway so it might not be an issue.

I'm not junking this one - it'll go in a dark corner shelf in case it's services are required in the future. I also ordered the panasonic portable model for the car & travel (runs on AAs) - I hate stuff stuck between my teeth.

Pain in the you-know-what...

This is my third Waterpik oral irrigation system. The first two lasted at least 3 years. This one is a piece of you-know-what. First, the resevoir does not fit over the unit with the irrigator tool in place after use. Second, I have to fiddle with the resevoir several times before the water will travel through the irrigator tip properly...pain in the you-know-what. Third, it seems to need flushing with bleach and water to rid it of a musty smell in the irrigator tip. Once I get the blasted thing to work, it does a wonderful job of getting debris left after flossing, but it's still a pain in the you-know-what knowing that there are better models available.

ShowerBreeze Jet Dental Irrigator

I previously used the "travel" WaterPik but it quickly lost the ability to be recharged. My hygentist recommended this and, due to the fact I always waterpik in the shower, it sounded ideal. I couldn't be happier with the results. Plus, because it's so easy to install, it will travel with us for our winter hiatus down South.

Works like a breeze

My family and I love this product. Using the tap's water supply, we got strong enough jets to clean our teeth. The set is simple and durable.

I initially had some problems when I installed the diverter valve in reverse (it only works one way!) and there were no indications on this. It just assumes that the female thread is for inlet and male thread for the outlet. However, it didn't take too long to figure out from the illustrated installation sheet.

Easy Breezy

This installed very easily, and quickly. The directions are very clear. I did need to use pliers to gently loosen the current shower fixture, just as the instructions suggested but no tools are needed to attach the Shower Breeze. A roll of Teflon tape is included in the package which I thought was a nice touch, it's not something everyone would have around or even know about if they've never done any DIY plumbing and you usually need Teflon tape when working with water fixtures.

I had put off purchasing this because I feared it wouldn't fit on my shower fixture, I live in an older mobile home but it's a perfect fit.

As to the price, yes maybe it is a bit pricey but considering you'll never need to replace it, as with the electric counter top models which seem to have the lifespan of a mayfly, I think this is a pretty good deal.

I like the ease of use, no setting up or taking apart, just use it, and it's quiet. I had a Water Pic that I loved for the whole eight weeks it worked, but, it was noisy, definitely not good for an apartment dweller.

Brilliant!

What's not to like? No counter clutter...nice warm water for massaging your gums and rinsing out the ol' braces...cleaning your teeth while enjoying your nice warm shower...the feeling of 100% clean when you get out of the shower...

Our family members tend to shower in the mornings before breakfast, so it's not the most intuitive time for oral hygene, but it does feel great and it can't hurt.

Very easy to install--took under five minutes.

We'll be giving these as gifts.

Very Satisfied

I had used a waterpik rechargable unit, but got frustrated with the inconveniences: charging it, filling and refilling it and then the battery died (~ 4 mos. of use). I just got this product and am thrilled at the low tech durable approach. My mouth is cleaner than it has been since I first got my waterpik, and knowing there is no battery to die, I know it will stay clean.

The added bonus- 6ft hose with tip removed is great for cleaning/rinsing tub as well as rinsing my toddler's hair without getting water/soap in her eyes! Maybe company will make hair rinsing attachment some day.

All in all great product.

The HYDRO FLOSS® oral irrigator is the highest quality, most effective home treatment device of its kind. It compliments and completes anyones home dental care. Optimizing by flushing disrupted plaque that brushing and flossing leave behind. Completing the care by providing a cleansing for sub-gingival and Those hard-to-reach areas. Twice as effective as other oral irrigators through the innovation of HydroMagnetics. The difference is, the HYDRO FLOSS® has the ability to inhibit the bacteria from adhering to the surface of the teeth. Clinical studies show that the HYDRO FLOSS® oral irrigator is 44% more effective than non-magnetic oral irrigators, (Journal of Clinical Periodontology, Vol. 20, No. 5, May 1993, pages 314-317), and up to 64% more effective than non-magnetic oral irrigators, (Journal of Clinical Periodontology, Vol. 25, No. 4, April 1998, pages 316-321).

Save your gums and pucker up

I've owned three Hydrofloss irrigators since 2002 and have found them all to be outstanding devices which, used 1-2 times per week, have kept my gums healthy and have stopped the recession of two troubled gum areas in my mouth. (The enclosed product CD they send with the units will explain exactly how it works and why this happens.)

I've had three because, per my instructions from my dentist, I've always used them with a solution of 80% warm tap water and 20% hydrogen peroxide. Unfortunately, the peroxide prematurly wears out the motor so that after 200 or so uses, it wears out. I returned two of the units to the manufacturer for refurbishing, but found that the repaired units did not pump water with enough force to adequately clean my gums. I subsequently did not pay for the repairs ($25 + shipping per unit) after several complaining e-mails with the company's owner.

I can attest to the fact that faithful use of these units will also completely elminate bad breath, provided that your additional oral care (flossing, brushing, and use of Listerine) is adequate.

IT LASTED LESS THAN A YEAR---WITHIN WARRANTY. THEY SENT 3 REPLACEMENTS FOR A TOTAL LIFE OF THE 3 A TOTAL OF ONE YEAR MAXIMUM; AND I RETURNED 2 OF THEM SO THAT MFR. COULD "INSPECT" THEM. THEY ALL SEIZED. MFR CLAIMED I SHOULD EXERCISE MORE CARE IN RINSING AND USING. I NEVER RECEIVED THEIR "INSPECTION" RESULTS.

    AOK

I bought this elsewhere to replace my failing WP60. I've owned perhaps 10 WP60's, since the 1970's. They fail regularly when the feed tube to the nozzle breaks, and later, when the motor fails (seized and/or fails to supply water due to cavitation of the fluid and pump failure).

Generally, these provide a very clean mouth experience, especially when used with a shot of mouthwash (instructions say they are safe for that use). Yes, you will see gunk come out of your teeth even after a thorough brushing. Surely they cut down on bacteria, and odor, but they don't stop plaque.

Now to compare: the new WP65 is almost identical to my old WP60, but the motor is significantly quieter (yea!), and the power from the nozzle is a bit less (boo!). It is now less than I would like. Over time, as the unit ages and weakens, I wonder if this will shorten the useful lifespan. Finally, the blue plastic cover/supply reservoir is less strong than the white one of the WP-60. I could imagine it cracking in a couple of years.

If I had had the choice I would have simply bought another WP60. I get about 3 years out of these things before they have to be chucked, but that's only $12 a year, so worth it.

    Questions & Answers
Question : Does anyone know of where I can get cosmetic dental care at a very low price?
I would even be willing to be an example case for a dental office! I have very good insurance, just not enough to cover all of my work that needs to be done.

    Answer:
You can definately check our your local universities and see what kind of dental programs they have and see if they have med students who are about to graduate work on people who don't have the money or ins. won't cover full price for regular cosmetic work. It's cheap and I believe they let you do payments. The dentists/professors are there observing so it's not like they do it themselves. One of my friends had his teeth worked on here in Dallas at Baylor, and they look really good... Check it out.

Question : How should I approach a dentist to barter my marketing skills in exchange for dental care?
I don't have dental coverage, my business is marketing and my smile is a mess.

    Answer:
In order to barter the value of your services should be equal or close to the dentist. So first look for a dentist offering free exams and x-rays, cleanings for new patients this is approx value of $200 savings and a great way for you to introduce yourself and become familiar with your new dentist and customer. Now back to the marketing part obvisously if you have the coupon for free services he is marketing but your referrals may still matter for discount for each referral and if your create an affordable avenue to mail out or distribute the coupons, cards etc. for a set discount amount. In addition you let him know you are paying privately (cash) and plan your treatment according to your budget and your marketing services discount. For more savings on your bill you can obtain low cost dental care by enrolling in a discount dental plan for about $100.00 for the entire year! Discount dental plans provide 10-60% off routine dental care and expensive dental procedures plus select plans offer FREE exams, x-rays etc. Now you have saved hundreds off your dental bill by combining the discount dental plan, marketing and coupon either way you will receive a treatment plan with costs and you will know how much to barter and it's worth to both of you. Look below for a few more tips on how to cut dental costs

Question : I need advice on dental care.My job offers 3 types of bene.the one with most coverage is least expensive why?
Cigna requires a hmo primary dentist but it covers 100% on most care. Is having a dental primary care provider really that big of a deal. I need alot of work.

    Answer:
Having a dental PCP is not a big deal, as there are many dentists looking for patients in need of work.

Question : Is there any homeopathic or other alternative dental care available?
I read a story about healers in the Philippines who tap on the root of a bad tooth before extracting it by hand without need of novocain. I am so fed up with fluoride and western dental care but can't seem to find anything else.

    Answer:
Not really. Just don't use flouride in your toothpaste. Tom's of Maine, peppermint is excellent. As long as you use Brita, or some filter like it, you should be fine. Any flouride you get from bits of dental care else where won't do you any harm.

Question : Why doesn't Canada use surplus to start a national dental care plan?
Canada had a huge surplus in money this year, why doesn't it start a new dental care plan so that everyone can have dental coverage without having to pay ass loads of money themselves or to insurance companies? It's stupid because so many sicknesses and diseases are linked to dental hygiene and maintenance, why wouldn't they implement dental care as a preventative sickness measure to help us Canadians maintain good health? This outrages me so much.

    Answer:
I guess it depends on what their other priorities are...

Question : Did you have proper dental care as a child?
If you're a teenager, do your parents make sure you have proper dental care?

    Answer:
I'm 55 and I didn't. I don't remember even being told to brush my teeth. Whenever I had a cavity my parents told me to get it pulled instead of filled because when I got older I would have dentures anyway. I got my first pair of dentures when I was 17. I hate my parents till today for doing that to me.

Question : Where can I get free dental care in the Metro Detroit area?
I need extreme dental work, probably dentures, and I don't have dental insurance. My teeth hurt and I can't eat anything without alot of pain.

    Answer:
Contact your local or state dental association and and see if there are any dentists who provide free or reduced cost care for low-income, disabled or senior patients. Call your local health department and ask about health centers that provide dental care for free or on a sliding scale. Your local United Way may also be aware of such a clinic. In some areas, you can reach them now by dialing 2-1-1 for "non-emergency information." Go to a dental school, if there is one near you, for reduced costs. Check http://www.toothwoman.net to see if low-cost or free dental services are available near you. Check http://bphc.hrsa.gov and choose "Find a Health Center" to see if there is a low-cost clinic near you. Check http://www.nfdh.org/DDS.html to see if your state has a "Donated Dental Services" program. D.D.S. is designed to locate dentists who will give free care to patients who are financially compromised due to medical problems. This is a process that will take a couple of months to get your information and then arrange for someone to see you. Not all states have D.D.S. programs.

Question : cost of dental care service in different states?
i just wondered the dental care cost difference of each states. for example, in case of bridge, which state is the most (least) expensive? just assume that patients use an average level of health insurance. hope to hear your kind answers.

    Answer:
Tooth whitening cost depends on the type of tooth whitening product or service you want. There are professional tooth whitening system that cost up to $1000, for example laser tooth whitening. Other tooth whitening system with cheaper tooth whitening cost are opalescence tooth whitening, crest tooth whitening strip, use of tooth whitening pen. Dentists in different areas render tooth whitening products and services. Such as tooth whitening Chicago, tooth whitening Los Angeles, tooth whitening Boston, tooth whitening Denver tooth whitening san Francisco, tooth whitening Beverly hills, tooth whitening Houston and so on. for details visit http://toothwhitening.fateback.com

Does Medicaid provide any type of dental coverage? Is there any adult Medicaid that covers dental care or any govt. programs that do offer dental care? Thank you for your help. By the way, for reference, we live currently in Utah.

    Answer:
When I was in college I needed alot of dental work but could not afford insurance. I did some research and found this plan. www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up with them online about 3 years ago now. They are very affordable, had my benefits active in 2 hours and saved me literally thousands of dollars. I know for a fact that all services are included ex: Including cleanings, exams, x-rays ..etc. Check to see if its availible in your area. Good Luck and Hope this Helps.

Question : Where can I find inexpensive dental care in the Killeen, Texas area? Need work done, have very little money.?
I have no dental insurance, need to have some teeth pulled, including wisdom teeth. Hoping there is a Dental school nearby that offers free/low cost care.

    Answer:
Call up a dentist and ask if he knows of a low cost or sliding scale clinic in the area. Sometimes dentists will donate work to low income people and there might be a free dental clinic that you can go to. If the first dentist doesn't know then try another one.
