Question : What kind of highschool marks do you need to get into a dental hygiene program?
I want to take dental hygiene in college but I heard theres lots of competition to get in. What kind of marks would I need to get in? Is there any dental hygiene students that can tell me how they did in highschool? thanks

Answer:
It's a post grad degree, and it's incredibly competitive here in CA.

Question : I'm planning on getting a bachelors of science in dental hygiene, what could I minor in?
I really don't have a back up plan just in case I don't get into the program, if I could have any suggestions I would really appreciate it? When I get a bachelors of science does that mean its only for dental hygiene or can I use it for some other major?

Answer:
i would go for spanish...it would suck if you were in a similar field and you couldnt understand them!

Question : Is it wrong for me to withhold my vote from a man because he has poor dental hygiene?
I'm not tolerant of poor dental hygiene, it's not that hard to pick up a toothbrush. I just find that plain nasty.

Answer:
i would say thats your choice, but its a silly thing to base a vote on!

Question : Which is a better field to get into respiratory therapy or dental hygiene?
I am thinking about entering the medical field, but i only want to do 2 yrs. i was thinking about dental hygiene and respiratory therapy. Which one is better? and what are the advantages and disadvantages?

Answer:
Hi Ceci - you can get into dental hygiene faster than you can get into respiratory therapy (6-8 mos.), but you can make more as as a respiratory therapist AND literally help improve someone's quality of life. Dental hygienists are very necessary, and thank God we have them; I just hear people grunting and moaning any time I'm in the dental office. Respiratory therapists are helping people help themselves and get back on the road to recovery. (it takes about 2 years for a RT, unless you take an accelerated course. Here are a couple of links that can help you get an idea of what you would be headed into: www.pmi.edu/careers/respiratory_therapy.asp www.medical-career.org www.dvc.edu/respiratorytherapy umary.edu/UM/.../Undergraduate/MathScience/respiratorytherapy Best of luck, Ceci! (last year nursing student)

Question : Is the Utah College of Dental Hygiene worth it?
I want to go to Dental Hygiene School but I dont want to leave the State really. weber state and Utah valleys Dental hygiene programs are both supposed to be really difficult to get in to. UCDH lets in more students then either of those but is also more expensive. In the end on a Dental Hygiene Salary I will be able to pay it off but I just dont know if its worth it.

Answer:
Yes it is worth it

Question : If a person is only going to do two things per day for preventative dental hygiene, what should they be?
In other words, a person says, okay, I have time to either brush twice per day, or brush once and floss once or floss twice or whatever. Brushing twice and flossing once isn't an option - that would be three dental hygiene events - one too many. If it's going to be just TWO per day, what should the person do?

Answer:
i think brush twice a day

Question : HELP! What classes should I take as a future dental hygiene applicant?
I am going to Riverside Community College to get my associates of science degree in dental hygiene. I already know all of the prerequisites I must complete before I can apply to the program but my concern has more to do with if I can complete all of the prerequisites in one year or 4 semesters. Can anyone please advise. Hygienists, what did you take your first semester as a college freshman?

Answer:
I took my prerequisite classes the first two semesters (microbiology, anatomy, physiology, chemistry, math, english- with the labs) I also took classes that were not necessarily prerequisites to apply to the program- but were required to get an associates of applied science. So I also took nutrition, my p.e. class, sociology and an interdisciplinary class (music, bleh). Find out from a guidance counselor or college catalog what classes OTHER than those with a "Dental Hygiene" emphasis- and take those along with your prerequisites, so you don't have to take them while you are in the program. I would recommend taking a p.e. (ANY kind yoga, volleyball, swimming, weight training, anything!) class for stress reduction while in the program... you'll feel better and handle the anxiety better. Best of luck!!

Question : Is it possible to work while in dental hygiene school?
I just finished dental assisting school and will start working soon. I want to go to dental hygiene school at some point when I can afford it. I heard from multiple people that it's extremely difficult to work while in DH school, and now I'm worried because that is my only option. Any advice??

Answer:
Sure you could find some time to work as a DA. Evening or Saturday. DH programs are challenging, but with good time management, you could do it and still do well in DH school.

Question : Why are there no part time or evening programs in dental hygiene?
I have a full time job as a tech in an animal hospital and have decided to take a career change. Apparently you can't take any dental hygiene programs in the evening or part time. There is simply no room for people with bills to pay. Does anyone have any suggestions? I think I am just ranting as I am a little upset.

Answer:
I think it's due to lack of supply. There probably aren't many professors who teach that subject and chances are, they would rather teach in the daytime. If it were you, would you like to teach a class at 7 or 8pm so that your students could have time to work during the day? Chances are, you wouldn't care about the students schedule, you have had enough life experience and gone through enough bad schedules that you feel you earn the right to do the class when you please. In situations like this, it's usually up to the professor when the class is taught, and not the college. Otherwise, the professor will go somewhere else and the college will be left with no dental hygiene program. The professor doesn't NEED the job, but the college needs the program. Sounds like you'll have to get a night job.
