Excellent So Far

I have a rechargeable Oral B toothbrush, but wanted to buy an inexpensive, alkaline powered brush to use on my frequent business trips. So far this brush is performing as well as its higher-torque sibling. If the batteries last as long as they say (three months), I'll be a happy camper.

get the Vitality . . .

Braun's competitively priced electric powered toothbrushes are very good values and reliable performers. Most models use the same rotating type replacement toothbrush heads.

The Advance Power 4500PX Bright D4510, like most electric toothbrushes that use AA batteries, delivers significantly lower brushing torque than a toothbrush with a built-in rechargeable battery, such as Braun's Vitality model. The Vitality may cost a little more, but it delivers a lot more brushing power, and the high capacity battery allows for many uses between recharges.

Both Braun models will do a good job, however the faster more powerful Vitality, will probably get more done in the same amount of time. Given the small price differential, and long life rechargeable battery, the Vitality would seem to be a much better value. Those who prefer a more gentle brushing action, can go with the 4500PX, or any of the multitude of AA battery powered toothbrushes available.

OK at best

This is a good electric toothbrush and great for travel as the 2 AA batteries last months. However, we've been through three of them in two years. Expect them to last about a year. As with other Braun toothbrushes, the brush tips are expensive and can be hard to find. Our local grocery chain discontinued all Braun/OralB toothbrushes and tips. The customer service people at both Walgreens and Eckerd tell me they just can't get their orders filled. This went on for the better part of 2003 and we finally picked some up during a trip to Europe.

I switched from a rechargeable Braun as I got tired of the rechargeable batteries losing their ability to hold a charge after a couple of years. Even if the AA battery models only last a year they are a much cheaper both initially and over the long run. They do vibrate a bit more but clean just as well and I find the shape much easier to handle than the rechargeable models.

Perfect.

I've got three of these, and they're great. They seem to last forever, but I broke one's end cap by dropping it, and I wanted a spare to leave in my travel toilet kit.

The last one I received had the timer, which is kind of silly. It stutters after a minute (I timed it).

One downside is the heads, which wear out and are expensive. [...] sells them in bulk, though...

Simply the best!

Forget about all the Sonic, water pics, and all the new Oral-B products. This outperforms everything.

You will have to relearn how to brush, though. The top teeth are brushed in a "m" pattern, and the bottom teeth in a "w". pattern. At least that is how my dentist taught me.

I do have trouble with the back side of the teeth doing the "m" and "w" pattern. So I just go along the gum line, mainly.

The way I can tell effectiveness is the amount of material left when flossing. If I floss after using this product, I rarely find any material. With any other product, I always find material when flossing.

I use this brush nightly only.

Rotadent toothbrush

I have been using this brand of electric toothbrush for almost 20 years, since first instructed by my dentist. I come from a family of very poor teeth, and I am doing everything in my power to not only save mine, but keep them in good condition. So far, it's worked. Whether or not it's due to the Rotadent, I don't know, but I don't mess with success! (Of course, I also floss and use a water pik every night, and brush & rinse twice a day). This is only my 3rd Rotadent, which I think is pretty good for almost 20 years!

Your cell phone is MORE waterproof

The Rotadent toothbrush does an excellent job however the products construction is completely inferior. I purchased the toothbrush online and as Amazon clearly states, online purchases do not qualify for the lifetime warranty. So when my Rotadent died a little over a year after purchasing it, I took the toothbrush apart. Rotadent claims the toothbrush is water proof and can be rinsed and handled like an ordinary toothbrush (as I did). When I disassembled the toothbrush I discovered that the unit is actually as waterproof as the common cell phone! The top where the drive mechanism contacts the brush is not sealed, the bottom where the charger connects is not sealed, and on my brush the center where the unit is assembled was not completely glued...so this seam also leaked. Everything inside the toothbrush was corroded including the battery, the drive unit, the motor, the switch, and charger.
I will purchase another Rotadent because there are no equivalent dental hygiene options available. My replacement Rotadent will not be handled anything like a regular toothbrush however, I will remove the head to rinse it and keep the unit as dry as possible.

Not worth the money

I got the Rotadent though my dentist who recommended this toothbrush and said it was similar to Sonicare. I didn't read reviews or compared others and just decided to buy it since I was unfamiliar with electric toothbrushes given I never had any problems with my gums and teeth. It cost $150 and the replacement heads were $15 to replace. When I first used it, I didn't notice a drastic difference between the Rotadent and my cheap disposable Oral B vibrating toothbrush. At times, my cheap Oral B version would clean my teeth better. After some time I stopped using it all together. Two years later, a friend recommended the Sonicare e7300(there are different version but this one is the most recommended), which is about $80 online and thought I would try it out after reading the positive reviews. I had my doubts, but I have to say it is superb at cleaning your teeth!!! I had my teeth cleaned and professionally whitened and wanted to maintain the whitening procedure and after a couple of months I noticed my teeth were feeling fuzzy and not as white. I started using the Sonicare e7300 and noticed brushing with the sonicare restored the smooth, clean feeling you have after a professional cleaning and in my case continued too maintain the whitening procedure. It is almost half the price and totally worth it. Lesson learned---never buy toothbrushes from the dentist office---they are more expensive and of course they say it is better since they don't sell the sonicare. I'm not sure what the return policy is in either toothbrush, but sometimes they have a 30 day period in which you can return it. The Rotadent has an additional brush that would be useful for braces, however the Sonicare brush has really thin bristles that clean in between teeth, thus when it comes to braces it may accomplish the same thing. Instead of having to buy two heads, you may be able to use one that does both clean your teeth and gums as well as clean in between small spaces where food is likely to get stuck. The sonicare's thin bristles and the agressive batteryt power are superb at cleaning in between teeth where you are likely to get coffee stains that are hard to reach.

Waste of money

This product is a waste of money. I purchased it a my dentist's office. After discovering that it has no power, the company sent me a replacement after my hygenist called and was on hold for 25 minutes. Warning: The warranty only applies if you buy it from a dentist. The replacement does not hold a charge either. My dentist will not issue a refund. I hate this toothbrush so much that I'm cutting my loss and tossing it in the garbage. Buy a Braun or Sonicare. Much better quality.

Great toothbrush and low cost

This is a great convenience. The brush works well and automatically recharges each day when you return it to the base. My wife and I both have arthritis and this is very lightweight so it is easy to brush longer. Plus being rechargeable it will save on batteries over the battery model so the difference is worth it. No doubt it has a fixed number of charge cycles so eventually it will go bad but for the cost it should be reasonable. Highly recommended.

The WORST toothbrush EVER!

This toothbrush lasted all of three weeks. Water gets into the battery compartment and ruins the batteries.

Save your money for an Oral-B toothbrush.

Broke almost immediately

The design must be defective, because I'm reading review after review where people have a similar experience. My spinbrush failed after just a few days. It seems that water somehow got into the battery compartment and quickly corroded the electronics. I've owned previous models of spinbrush and they held up pretty well. It seems that this new 2-speed variety of brush has a design defect. Definitely not recommended.

yeah...

It worked great for about 3 or 4 weeks, then it just went dead... Now if this was maybe 2 or 3 months it would be fine, except for one factor:
THEY MARKET IT WITH REMOVABLE HEADS AND BATTERIES. Why pretend that the product is sustainable if it isn't? I didn't abuse the toothbrush in anyway and barley got any water on it (although thats what toothbrushes do) and it still broke..

I opened it up and tried to replace the batteries and I could smell that the motor burnt out. Bought an Oral-B Pulsar today, hopefully that will work out better. Don't waste your money on this.

works well

my daughter recieved a crest spinbrush for christmas and she claimed that it was the best brush ever 5 months later, comparing her experience to going to the dentist for a cleaning.

so i got one. and i too am impressed. neither of us are experiencing the problems i read here. both brushes remain in operable condition and show no sign of wear.

and the amazon price is so good that the price of one spinbrush is comparable to two regular brushes from the market. today i am buying replacement heads for both my daughter and myself. when the brush(es) tanks, i will be back to buy more.

**update**
three months later and all is still well. both brushes work superbly and do not seem to have the problems others mention with leaks and so forth. working as designed. -bw 7.28.08

Great Tooth Brush

I must have gotten a good brush...I have had mine for over a year now, close to the 2 yr mark too...yes you read correctly...I have had not a problem with mine. I must be lucky then based a the very many poor reviews this product got. I keep mine in a cup that we have in our bathroom, our cup doesnt have weep holes in it so sometimes when I forget to pour out the water the bottom of my brush is in water....it is still working fine. My only problem is that the rubber on my switch got moldy looking...(from the water) but other than that its a great brush.

Questions & Answers
Question : How can you charge an electric toothbrush faster?
My electric toothbrush needs to charge!!!! soon!!!!!!!! how can I speed the process up. Cmon my electrical engineering guys. help me out here ;)

Answer:
IDK attach to big battery with wires but don't kill yourself

Question : Is it ok to use a strong electric toothbrush after wisdom tooth removal?
I have a pretty strong electric toothbrush (it's Oral-B Professional Care Triumph). Is it too strong to use after wisdom teeth removal?

Answer:
Stay away from the extraction site for about 5-7 days with any kind of instrument. You could tear the stitches and/or knock out the blood clot which could lead to dry socket which is very very painful. Also avoid carbonated drinks, swishing liquid in your mouth, mouthwash, smoking, and sucking on straws. You can rinse very gently with warm water.

Question : In the last few months I got 4 fillings and 1 root canal. Is it OK to use an electric toothbrush?
Do I need to take any special precautions while brushing with an electric toothbrush? Does the vibration from the bursh cause any damage to fillings? After RCT I had a perm filling instead of cap. Does the electric toothbrush cause any harm to this filling?

Answer:
Your dentist, of course, is your best source of info on this...but when I had several fillings and root canals done, my dentist insisted I use an electric tooth brush...believes it does a much better job of cleaning. And ,I have had much better dental health than ever before since using the electric brush.

Question : Can brushing your teeth with an electric toothbrush cause brain damage?
It's no funny thought, but I wonder if one could sustain brain damage if exposed to the vibrations of electric toothbrushes too often. Has research been done on this? Do you think doing research on this would be helpful? If nothing has been done in this area yet. I am willing to do research in this area.

Answer:
I strongly doubt it.

Question : Is there such a thing as an electric toothbrush travel case?
I have a Crest Spinbrush Pro Whitening toothbrush and I was wondering if you can buy travel cases for them. I know you can buy the things that just cover the head...but I want a case that will cover the entire thing.

Question : electric toothbrush?
can anyone tell me how the chager for an electric toothbrush work? its plastic on plastic, where does the charge come from?

Answer:
Induction coils. There is a metal coil inside the toothbrush, and one in the charger. The charger will pass a current along the wire which creates a magnetic field. The field is stong enough for it to 'connect' to the coil inside the toothbrush. Very slowly, it charges up.

Question : Can you use an electric toothbrush on a 1 year old?
The only electric tooth brushes I've seen for sale for kids start at 3 years old, so is it bad to use an electric tooth brush on a child younger then 3? My 1 year old loves my husbands electric toothbrush but i don't want her to use it as i'm worried it will do her harm. Some people are getting the idea she doesn't like to have her teeth brushed with an electric toothbrush, she loves it thats the problem, she will stay perfectly still and have her teeth brushed with one but a normal toothbrush she isn't keen on. Lazy? the tooth brush doesn't go in and clean your teeth while you stand there it's no the jetsons!!! LOL

Answer:
It is very likely that she's teething and the massaging effect of the toothbrush helps. Depending on her development, 1 yr is when she ought to be getting some of her first few teeth in (give or take some months). The toothbrush itself won't have any adverse effect on the gums. The age has more to do with the toothpaste - as mentioned earlier - your child doesn't need to be using flouridated toothpaste at this age. But she's not actually brushing her teeth, so don't worry about it. Having said that (and this will sound stupid, but it is legitimate) make sure your husband is in good shape dentally speaking. Babies get the bacteria for decay from their parents, so whoever shares it will inevitably pass on bacteria to her. Its no big deal, but make sure your husband doesn't have any large, untreated cavities.

Question : Is my 2 year old to young for an electric toothbrush?
My son seems to be very interested in my electric toothbrush lately so today I used it a little to brush his teeth & he liked it. He let me clean his teeth longer than with a regular one. Should I get a kid's one to use on him or is he still to young? He doesn't have his molars yet.

Answer:
Go get him one tomorrow LOL. My son (who is also 2) would completely refuse to brush his teeth with a regular toothbrush and would randomly come out of the bathroom with mine or his daddy's electric one. We took him to the store and let him pick out the one he wanted, and now we have to force him not to brush his teeth. We've compromised at 5 times a day LOL...once when he wakes up, after breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and before he goes to bed...however, we're still working on the time...he tries to brush his teeth for about 5 minutes each time and I have to cut it back.

Question : How do you clean the gunk from an electric toothbrush?
I hope you guys can help me with this since Philips (Sonicare maker) couldn't even properly answer this question. Almost every week, disgusting dark green colored film collects inside the electric toothbrush head. First of all, is this normal? is anyone else having this issue? I have to take a manual toothbrush to scrub out the film. Is this a common occurrence with electric toothbrushes, am I supposed to ignore this gross film and just change the head every 3-4 months? It's getting to be a hassle to have to clean out this film every week!

Answer:
THIS FILM IS A NORMAL OCCURRENCE WITH THIS BRUSH. ONCE PER WEEK USE A PAPER TOWEL DAMPENED IN RUBBING ALCOHOL TO CLEAN THE INSIDE OF THE CAP. THIS MAINTENANCE MUST ALSO BE DONE FOR THE RUBBER CONNECTOR OF THE BRUSH HEAD. REMEMBER TO REPLACE THE BRUSH HEAD EVERY THREE MONTHS. I USE THE SONICARE ELITE MODEL.

Question : Do electric toothbrushes really work better than a normal toothbrush?
When I say electric I mean the nice, expensive kind and by normal i mean no electricity needed

Answer:
YES AN ELECTRIC BRUSH IS FASTER AND MORE COMPLETE THAN A MANUAL BRUSH. ITS BRISTLES REACH A DEEPER LEVEL THAN A MANUAL ONE ALONG THE GUM LINE.
